Sometimes a tea is a most pleasant surprise. This was that. I didn't expect a store-brand bagged version to be one of the best jasmine green teas I've had. Whomever made this for Safeway did not skimp on either the potency of the tea or on the jasmine infusions, which scented the tea quite well for both aroma and flavor. Bonus: as I found out by accident, it tolerates long steeping (10 minutes plus) nicely without getting overly bitter. Yet even a normal time of around 3 or 4 minutes will yield good results.

Jasmine aroma wafts forth nicely from the dry bag, perhaps a function of not only the profusion of flowers likely used, but also, the well-sealed, outer-paper/inner-foil wrapper that swaddles each bag and holds in aroma. The base tea is not specified as Chinese or Japanese in origin, but either way, it has a robust, somewhat astringent flavor that seems more like oolong than traditional green, and holds up well in the presence of a good amount of jasmine taste. The aftertaste keeps a nice balance of both flavors as well. If you have a Safeway in the area, or where vacationing in my case, and enjoy jasmine tea at all, I strongly recommend getting a box of this product.
