Wow, the first tea I ever sampled that was grown on U.S. soil! This was quite remarkable, as a curiosity. As a tea though, it was less interesting...it still seems that the main appeal of this tea is its novelty value.
Dark-colored leaf turns lighter upon brewing, and brews a rich, golden-colored up. Mellow and smooth. The mint flavoring, which is spearmint, is subtle and just the right amount.
The base tea isn't super remarkable, but it's similar in quality to Bigelow's base tea, which I think is a low grade of Chinese green tea. This tea seems slightly higher quality, but only slightly so. It is finely broken and seems mechanically processed.
I'd love to know what a high-quality orthodox tea grown in South Carolina would taste like, but unfortunately, that would have to wait.
All that said, this was not bad though...I've had much worse green tea in tea bags. This was smooth and pleasant, and I'd drink it again.
