this is the first hong yue / ruby black i've tried.
when i sip it, i primarily get a smooth, somewhat malty taste. the aroma is sweet, but there's also something else.. something cooling. i guess it's like aromatic, volatile terpene/camphor/evergreen/eucalyptus type of a smell&feeling.
it's certainly complex, and many of the notes disappear as i sip. if i set the cup down for a moment and then try it again, the nuances return.
the terpene/camphor aroma is especially strong coming off of the steeped leaves.
i really love this tea. it was $11 for 50g, and i think rishi sold out of it within a month or so of offering it.
i've been brewing it with 200degF water, and it's been good for several infusions.
i've seen a few other sources for this type of tea, and many of them seem to be considerably more expensive than this offering was. hrm.
