Review of Earl Grey

This is not a typical Earl Grey; it also contains lemon flavoring as well as the usual bergamot, but the difference is subtle. The overall character of this tea is relatively strong, but not particularly complex. There is a fairly strong bergamot presence, with some noticeable lemon too, but the base black tea does not come out much in the aroma--it seems mainly to impart body and strength.
It was enjoyable but it did not greatly impress me. I prefer Earl Grey teas which are defined by a more aromatic base tea.
Also, this tends to be on the pricey side. Contrast with Numi's earl grey, an organic tea of the same style in a similar (although slightly higher) price range: that is an outstanding tea that really grabbed my attention, whereas this one was okay but nothing special.

Just saw your review after adding one...maybe I had a decidedly more "lemoney" batch, but got the same impression as you about the lack of presence of the base tea. It's funny how we each used the phrase "nothing special" as well. Given your deep experience and expertise as a tea evaluator, that gives me confidence that I'm not imagining things on this offering either. :-)
