Brews a very dark color, but flavor is surprisingly light (although still stronger than most light-colored teas). Tastes a lot more like high-grown Ceylon tea than like most Assam.
Aroma suggestive of spices and sweet rice, with quite a strong wood presence (like oak and cedar, unlike most teas). Peppery and pungent. Finish is highly astringent and unpleasantly sour. I did not finish the cup.
Unique, and considerably complex, but not my favorite Assam from a tea bag. I thought this was not quite up to the same level of quality as Hampstead's Darjeeling, which, even in tea bag form, was quite outstanding. I'd be curious if this tea were better loose. The astringency really ruins it for me.
