Wiry leaf has a good amount of golden tip. I was surprised by the dark color of the liquor produced by these light golden leaves. The picture Harney provided looks a bit deceptive--I found it brews much darker.
Aroma is intensely cocoa-ey and chocolatey. Almost tastes like a cup of unsweetened cocoa. Reminiscent of some high grades of Ceylon OPA and also suggestive of some old-style Lapsang Souchong (the less smoky type).
Very rich mouthfeel, full-bodied and thick. Extremely smooth flavor...little bitterness and surprisingly little astringency relative to the thick body.
This struck me as a very good tea. It would be a special treat for people who love strong, rich teas that are also nearly completely smooth. It is quite pricey, however. I'm surprised at the huge difference in price between Harney's two Panyong Congou offerings...this is about 14 times the price of Harney's default Panyang Congou, per pound!
