A sample from the Philadelphia Coffee and Tea Festival. Thank you, Salada, for providing me with many samples. This one surprised me; I don't think of Salada as a brand that I normally like, but I always approach teas with an open mind, and I'm glad I did because I really liked this tea.
Brews a cup, dark in color for a green tea, with a very pleasing aroma, suggestive of baked goods like gingerbread or fruitcake: nutmeg, clove, and a hint of cinnamon. I also notice cardamom in there. The spices dominate the green tea, but the base tea is slightly evident in the flavor.
A very different blend or balance of spices from a normal masala chai that uses a black tea base. I think the spices are well-suited to the tea.
Smooth flavor, naturally sweet, with only a slight, pleasant astringency, no discernable bitterness or sourness. Definitely the best tea I've sampled yet from Salada, and one of the better flavored green teas I've ever tried in this price range.
I brewed with 185 degree water, and did not add any milk or sweetener.
