Of all four of Ahmad's fruit-flavored black teas, this is the one I liked the least. It has a fairly artificial apple flavoring...it does not smell at all like an actual apple, but rather, like the "green apple" candy flavor, familiar to me from my childhood.
I don't know if Ahmad uses a different base tea for their four fruit-flavored black teas, or if the base tea is the same, and its character seems to change, as an illusion caused by combining it with different flavorings...but the base tea in this one seems weaker, less present.
The flavor is slightly tangy, but there is little bitterness, and the body seems significantly lighter, and the overall character of the tea weaker. The only aromatic qualities I notice in the tea itself are a slight rice-like quality, suggestive of some high-grown Ceylons, and a very faint hint of malt.
I can see apple pairing well with black tea, but I think this is a poorly-executed blend. I want the rich, hearty aroma of apple cider, paired with a strong, malty black tea. This blend was too light, and too artificial smelling.
