Strong bourbon aroma. I was curious, and wanted to try a flavored tea. I like vanilla, I was expecting something different. Not impressed.

As much as I hugely love Upton, I haven't been crazy about their flavored teas. I am a pure tea enthusiast myself, and I like reading your reviews because I think your tastes tend pretty much towards mine.
If you are still searching for a flavored tea that you would enjoy, you might enjoy Ajiri Tea's flavored teas. I think they currently have ginger, mango, and lemon. The base is a strong Kenyan black tea, I think the sort that you might like. Another flavored tea I like is Ahmad Tea's cardamom tea; it's not terribly complex but I find it very enjoyable. It's bargain-priced, but only available in large quantities.
If you're really looking for a Vanilla-flavored tea, I'd point to Rishi Tea's Vanilla Bean black tea. I also liked Arbor Teas' one, but it has a strong bourbon aroma that might be what you're objecting to in this tea from Upton. Rishi's example is very different.

Thanks Alex. This was just a misstep on my part. I love vanilla, but for me, it doesn't mate well with tea. I have always enjoyed Earl Grey and chai. Your suggestions look promising.
