One of the most aromatic teas yet from Teakruthi, this tea had a beautiful fragrance, light and fresh, suggesting malt. The leaf is also very pretty, with silvery tips mixed in against a mostly-dark background. I got excited when I opened the bag and saw and smelled the leaf!
Upon brewing the aroma gets much more complex...toasty and smoky notes emerge, quite boldly too. There are also vegetal notes.
Drinking it there is a honey-like sweetness, but it is more tannic than most teas that have this quality, and in a pleasant way. The astringency reminds me a little bit of the quality that some first-flush Darjeeling has, because the cup is light overall but fairly astringent.
I thought this was an excellent tea. I initially tried it in the morning, and I was curious if any magic would happen when I drank it in the afternoon. I actually found I preferred it in the morning, but it does seem to fit within the "afternoon tea" tradition of British tea culture more due to its lighter character. I'm the type of person who likes to drink "breakfast teas" in the afternoon.
This is the second-priciest black tea from Teakruthi, but I think it has the quality to back up the price. It also resteeps very well, with the second steep becoming lighter and more fruity notes coming out in the aroma.
