Full disclosure: I'm not really qualified to review teas, but...
I switched from coffee to tea a while back. I graduated to loose leaf not long ago. The only loose tea I could find was Twinings English Breakfast, which I enjoyed. Cruising the internet looking for a new teapot I came across Mark T. Wendell, which was an eye opener. So I ordered a couple of teas, one of which was Hu-Kwa.

It's certainly different! A dark leaf and very smokey aroma, not like the Lipton, Twinings and Bigelow I was used to. I brewed according to the website directions, 5 minutes. It has a very clear medium red color. The taste was very smokey. It took a bit of getting used to, but the main impression I got was that under all the smoke was a very high quality tea. It doesn't seem to be a high caffeine tea.

Not exactly sure that this is my cup of tea, but I'm looking forward to drinking more of this.

Haha...I find it amusing how a lot of the people who claim they're "not qualified to review teas" are often the people whose reviews I trust most. You know, I wasn't really qualified in any way when I started this site, I was also in that stage of starting to explore quality loose-leaf teas, having most of my experience drinking the mainstream tea bag brands.

Anyway, welcome to the site and thank you for your first few reviews! And please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have questions about the site or about tea...the contact form goes to my email!

Thanks for the welcome. I brewed this up again this morning. It didn't seem so smokey this time. In the second cup I put in a bit of orange blossom honey. It was a good combo.
