This is the second tea I ordered from MTW. It is not a CTC product. The aroma on opening the tin is earthy and quite pleasant. I brewed it this morning, according to the website directions, for 5 minutes. It came out a beautiful red with an aroma like, well, tea. The taste is a big improvement over the big brand teas I've been drinking up to now. It had a nice caffeine kick to boot.

To me, this is what tea is supposed to be.

I really love these whole-leaf, orthodox Assam teas. I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to Assam, I even like some quality CTC teas, but there's something in the orthodox teas that the CTC teas lack...the aroma is more complex. It's not always easy to describe, sometimes it smells just "like tea" to me, but when I pay attention there are more different notes in the aroma...whereas the CTC teas, even if pleasantly strong and satisfying, don't have as much going on.

Just got back from 4 day backpack in the Sierra Nevada. I woke up one morning jonesing for a cup of this assam!
