Review of The Tasty Decaf
April 19th, 2018

This tea has recently changed both it's box, the amount contained and the tea blend, as it has added a flavouring, although it does not say what..
It now has only 70 bags instead of 80. The tea itself does not taste as strong as it did and there is a faint whiff of Bergamot. PG Tips have said they have discontinued the original decaf tea and have no plans to retain it..

Hello! And welcome to RateTea and thank you for your first review, and thanks especially for being the first person to review the decaf version of PG Tips, as well as reminding us about the packaging having changed...I just updated the image on that one to reflect the new packaging.
I find it a little sketchy the way these companies scale-back the size or number of bags in a product as a way of masking price increases. It's especially weird because 70 is an uncommon number...lots of companies sell boxes of 80 or 100 teabags, but this is the only one I've heard of where they have a unit size of 70. PG Tips is not the only company doing this either; another reviewer complained about Tazo doing the same thing recently.
I recall reading a while back that PG Tips also reduced the amount of leaf in their teabags, I'm not sure if this explains the change you noticed or not. This may have been a couple years before the changes you reference though.
At any rate, thanks for sharing your thoughts, and feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about tea or about our site! I don't drink decaf tea myself (either preferring caffeinated or herbal tea like rooibos) but it's good to hear from people who do.
