Too bad this tea has been discontinued, because it's an acceptable (not great to the point of blowing one's mind, but pretty decent) take on rooibos/herbal blending. As with other rooibos teas I've tried, the first impression wasn't anything to brag about, but it grew on me after a few bags, and I came to appreciate it some. It's a shame not enough others felt this way, because the product appears to have gone the way of Circuit City, 7Up Gold, Pontiac Trans Am, Service Merchandise, Steak and Ale, and Garbage Pail Kids. Perhaps "Tazo African Red Bush" was a slightly less-iconic name than those.
Here was another estate-sale find, with individual bags well-sealed in their wrappers and both appearing and tasting fresh. I guess this tea keeps/kept well, because though the aroma wasn't very strong, it still smelled much like a herbal rooibos, and tasted pretty much as advertised: rooibos first, then a little hibiscus tanginess (conveniently for those who judge appearances with tea, this ingredient also darkens/reddens the tea further). I didn't taste the lemon much, but the rosemary—an ingredient I'm not used to seeing in herbal tea—was detectably present. The aftertaste is decidedly more tangy than the flavor, is dominated by hibiscus, and lingers a long time. However, sniffing the wet-bag aroma yields more of the typical broom-like rooibos scent.
