I was excited and curious to order from TeaSource, and this was one of the first teas I tried. I have been impressed with all of the teas I've tried, including this one.
The leaf is strongly aromatic and pleasant, mostly a malty smell, and it also gives off the sense that this tea packs a punch.
The brewed cup is exactly like what I'd expect both from the description and the smell of the leaf: strong, but very pleasant. Bold and dark, with strong maltiness and a hint of wintergreen. Smooth up-front, but very full-bodied and quite astringent in the finish.
Flavor is delightfully bitter and sweet at the same time! I'm surprised how sweet this tea is, even through the bitterness and astringency.
This tea was a pleasure to drink, especially on days when I wanted something very bold. I found this tea was equally enjoyable in hot and cold weather.
Resteeps very well. I always made two cups. Be careful with how much leaf you use; this tea is easy to brew too strongly. I used less leaf than I typically do, and never steeped longer than 3 minutes as it infuses very quickly.
Price is excellent, and I see it's gone on sale even! I am tempted to grab some more!
