Mecha is a Japanese green tea that is made exclusively of buds, making it an example of a tippy tea. It is also called gacha(芽茶) in Japanese. It is considered a highly desirable type of tea, often roughly between sencha and gyokuro in price.

Contrasting with many tippy teas, mecha has a sharply bitter flavor and is quite astringent. It is also highly aromatic.

Mecha is often the tea served as "agari", the tea served at the end of a meal of sushi. The bitterness of the tea is seen as cleansing the palate.
