Served at the Carolaschlösschen, the cafe on the Carolasee in the Großer Garten, Dresden, Germany. The most expensive cup of tea I had in Germany (at 4 Euro) but a contender for the best.
This was a very potent Assam, edgy, but with a rich aroma. Strongly malty, with notes of dried fruit. This would be an excellent breakfast tea, but I also found it paired really well with a rich, fatty dessert. For how strong flavored this was, the cup produced a very clear liquor, which surprised me for a broken-leaf tea.
I brewed 3 minutes, and then drank the cup, and let the remainder steep more, so I could compare how this tea tasted stronger or weaker. It tasted great both ways...it doesn't become too astringent or too bitter for me, but the complexities were still evident with the first, lighter steeping.
I checked the price of these tea bags, and they're expensive, even wholesale, working out to be about 7.5 Euros for a box of 20 sachets. That's steep...as good as this tea was, I don't think that price is warranted.
