Smooth initial flavor. I feel a bit conflicted giving this one such low ratings because it does have many good qualities, but I just disliked it overall.
There's a lot of chamomile in this blend, and chamomile is definitely evident in the aroma. I also notice, however, the rather unpleasant aroma of valerian. Valerian is an herb that has a flavor and aroma that I just don't like at all...it smells a bit putrid. It doesn't dominate in this blend, the way it does in some herbal teas, but it's more noticeable than I'd like. I don't notice much of the passionflower in the aroma, which is a shame because I love making herbal tea from pure passionflower. I don't know what scullcap tastes like because I've never tried it in isolation so I can't say if I notice it or not.
Is this herbal tea relaxing or sleep-inducing? I did find it somewhat relaxing, more so than straight chamomile tea, but significantly less so than pure tulsi tea, or pure passionflower, the two relaxing herbs I tend to prefer. I did also find it makes me a bit sleepy.
I tend to avoid sedative herbs like Valerian, and prefer ones that are relaxing without making me overtly sleepy, so this is a blend I probably would not choose to drink regularly, both because I don't usually like herbs to make me feel more sleepy, and because I don't like the smell of the Valerian.
I wish Sacred Rose would reconsider this blend and replace the Valerian with another relaxing herb with a better aroma, perhaps lemon balm or holy basil. I think lemon balm would blend better with the aroma. That blend would probably be a bit weaker medicinally than this one but I would prefer it.
Leaves a strange taste in your mouth--not at all clean and fresh. This is the least favorite tea I've tried from Sacred Rose so far. However, I will say this: if you want a sleep-inducing tea containing Valerian, this is the best-tasting one I've ever sampled. (Far ahead of Celestial Seasonings' offering in this department)
