Miyazaki (宮崎県) is a prefecture in Japan, located on the eastern coast of Kyūshū, the southernmost of Japan's four large islands. Surrounded by the ocean on three sides, Miyazaki has a moderate climate similar to the two bordering prefectures of Kumamoto and Kagoshima, although like much of Japan the region has a variable climate owing to changes in altitude as one travels inland.Miyazaki is less well-known for tea production than nearby Kumamoto and Kagoshima, but it does produce tea. Tea is mostly grown inland in areas such as the Nishiusuki District. The town of Gokase in Nishiusuki District is one region that produces kamairicha, a pan-fired tea more similar to Chinese green teas than to other Japanese teas, most of which are steamed.
