About Toyama, Japan
Toyama(富山) is a prefecture in Japan, locating on the North-facing central coast of Honshu, the largest island of Japan. It is bordered to the south by Gifu.Toyama is not well-known for tea production, but does produce some tea, which can occasionally be purchased in the West. The region is a major producer of rice and also is important for the fisheries along its coast. In tea, Toyama produces batabancha, an unusual type of bancha that we classify as a dark tea because it uses fermentation during its production.
