This was an interesting tea right from the first sip. Although there are some of the typical aromas characteristic of Darjeeling first flush, the overall character is somewhat different from any other teas I have had before.
Greener character, and aroma is more like Indian green teas than black teas: herbaceous tones, and slightly lemony tanginess. Overall though, I was not crazy about this tea: it had too many of the cooked vegetable tones (even when I lowered the brewing temperature below boiling), and was rather astringent. I can notice the minty nuance Upton mentions, but I've had other Darjeelings (from Upton) like TD25, first flush from Barnesbeg estate, that had this quality as well, that were similarly priced, and had fewer objectionable qualities.
While this was certainly different, and was enjoyable, it would not become a favorite or everdyay tea for me, even with its very low price.
