A dark, smooth, full-bodied tea with a highly vegetal character and a pleasing, wintergreen quality.
Fairly complex...much less of the typical fruity tones characteristic of Darjeeling. Instead, there are biscuity-tones. Rare Tea Republic describes the aroma as "jam and sap" and I think this was a good description. Overall I find their description of this tea to be spot-on.
I brewed a second cup, and it was very pleasant, full-bodied and still flavorful, although nondescript: most of the interesting aspects of the aroma were gone after the first cup.
Seems pricey, but not unreasonable for an organic and fair-trade tea of this quality. Also, the leaf goes quite far. Still, among the organic and fair-trade teas in this price range, I prefer what I've had from Makaibari estate, although their teas have a very different character, so it's a little bit like apples and oranges. But I do think I prefer the character of their teas (less vegetal for one).
