About Rare Tea Republic

Rare Tea Republic was an online tea company, launched in 2011 and based in Novato, CA. It focused on teas from the Himalayan region, including Darjeeling, Nepal, Assam, Bihar, Kangra, and Sikkim. Currently, Rare Tea Republic only ships to the U.S. Rare Tea Republic was a brand of Republic of Tea, a company whose tea bags are widely available.[1]

Rare Tea Republic was a member of the Ethical Tea Partnership, and some of the teas sold by Rare Tea Republic were certified organic or fair trade, and/or Rainforest Alliance certified. Rare Tea Republic sourced their teas directly from producers.

A vaguely Darjeeling-like tea with dark, vegetal and herbaceous aspects. I'm noticing a trend amongst all of the teas I sample from Rare Tea Republic. This is one tea though that I found did not particularly fit its description: I would not describe it as "brisk", nor did I notice many "floral notes".

A dark, smooth, full-bodied tea with a highly vegetal character and a pleasing, wintergreen quality.

Fairly complex...much less of the typical fruity tones characteristic of Darjeeling. Instead, there are biscuity-tones. Rare Tea Republic describes the aroma as "jam and sap" and I think this was a good description...
