This is a top level black tea, but it can fool you. If you are looking for a bold, strong, malty black tea then this one is not for you. This tea is smooth and delicate. It is very low in tannin. While there is a pretty strong aroma when brewing it doesn't translate into the finished product.

I haven't sampled this particular Golden Monkey, but I recently had a similar reaction to one from TeaVivre which I sampled--I thought it was outstanding, but it was not strong in the sense of most black teas. The flavor is much more subdued than other black teas, even when brewing it with more leaf and a longer steeping time.
