This is an insanely strong tea. I find the brewing instructions to be way off...following them it's undrinkable. I tried using about half as much leaf and brewing for 1 minute and it was about right. Steep it any longer and it becomes painfully astringent and also quite bitter.
When brewed briefly and with little leaf, the aroma is still pretty strong. This tea is very malty with some dark vegetal tones and a hint of freshness. Overall though, this is a heavy tea. It's not my style. Cheap, given that you barely need any leaf to get a powerful cup. Upton recommends it for iced tea.
This is one of the few teas I strongly prefer adding lemon or lime to. Adding just a drop of juice takes the edge off, makes this tea much smoother, and brings out the vegetal tones in the aroma. Still? I'm not a fan.
