My favorite tea from TeaGschwendner yet! I thought this was among the best Kenyan black teas I've sampled, and among the best of all African teas for that matter.
Brews a rich, dark, full-bodied cup with a strong but subdued aroma and an exceptionally smooth flavor. The aroma is complex and hard to describe: it seems somewhat vegetal, with, as the description says, notes of malt and fruit, and also fairly present wintergreen quality (that I love). The flavor is bold but smooth and very pleasing: there is considerable natural sweetness in this tea, and unsweetened, it tastes almost as if honey has been added.
I found this tea can be oversteeped. If I used much more than a teaspoon of leaf per cup, or steeped much longer than 3 minutes, the first cup came out a bit harsh, too astringent. Brewed as recommended, it tastes ideal to me.
This tea resteeps extremely well too! I was able to brew three cups from the leaf, using Western brewing; the third was a little on the thin side but still very enjoyable.
Another exceptional tea to come out of Kenya! I highly recommend this one.
