The liqueur is an amber color with hints of green. It smells sweet and sort of spiced, like there is something extra inside. The brew is made from chopped up licorice root, and there are no other spices, so I assume the spiced taste comes from the root itself.
This is a really tasty herbal tea. It is caffeine free, but it is sweet and savory. Mostly the tea tastes like dandelion, but a whole lot sweeter with a little bit of a bitter end to it. Drinking it too long makes a lot of the bitter and the sweet taste go away, and it takes stopping drinking it for a little bit to make the tastes come back. I wouldn't say that it tastes like anise or fennel myself, in fact I think it is much sweeter than either of those.
