It’s Christmas and all of my gifts this year were tea. I’ve had quite a day of sampling some new blends. I’m probably well over the caffeine limit but let’s keep the train rolling.
One of my gifts was a holiday adagio set with six 1oz tins. Most of the blends sounded tasty but I was skeptical about pumpkin spice. But.. see below.
Aroma: reminds me of a chai blend. Very spicy with cinnamon leading the way. I’m not sure I get pumpkin but that spice blend that you’d associate with a pumpkin spiced latte is popping. 9/10
Flavor: This is really nice. Balanced, flavorful, and really darn seasonal. Not quite as spicy as the most intense chai blends but this has plenty of pop if you like a spiced tea. 8/10
Body: This is not the biggest body but it’s got plenty to stand up to the flavor. 7/10
Value: After checking the site, this comes in at 8 dollars for 3 ounces. Bargain. 8/10
Overall: I’m shocked. I expected this to be the weakest of the teas in the sampler. I now wonder if it may be the strongest. 100 percent recommend. 8/10

This blend did not work for me; although I love the flavor of pumpkin, and can imagine it really working well in a blend with black tea, I found that the pumpkin flavor in this tea was somewhat artificial-seeming...highly estery, and cloying, and also clashing with the other aromas and flavors. I would say the aroma was even suggestive of bubble-gum, not an aroma I like in any context.
The tea, on the other hand, was rich, dark, and deep, a classic Ceylon of good quality. The other spices actually worked well. Although the base tea comes through, it does not mesh well with the pumpkin aroma.
If I were to re-work this tea, I would use a different extract or pumpkin flavoring, or perhaps use whole, dried pumpkin flesh. Pumpkin, as I imagine it, is a deep, rich ingredient, with a subtle flavor...not a fleeting, estery overtone like the pumpkin flavoring added to this tea. As-is, I would not drink this again.

Mmm, this tea is good. It tastes a bit weak, though, and I don't want it to get too bitter. But I like the blend of spices. It's a little like chai, and I'm a big chai fan, but I like that this tea has much less cinnamon flavor. I can barely taste the pumpkin. I added cream and sugar.
