|
Commercial Description

The dry tea smells very strongly of bergamot and very much like Bigelow's regular Earl Grey.
The taste is much different than the regular Bigelow. Much more tea shines through the citrus. I suspect that the base tea is the Steep English Breakfast, which is a flavorful Sri Lankan/Ceylon tea with a mellow cocoa bitterness. The bergamot is actually a bit less pronounced than I expected from sniffing the dry tea bag, but I don't think that's a bad thing. This Earl Grey has a nice balance. The bittersweet cocoa notes reach through the citrus, but the citrus lingers on into the finish. Bigelow has again produced a very good tea for its Steep line.
One thing that seems strange is that even though the base tea tastes just like the English Breakfast, the Earl Grey isn't also marked as Fair Trade Certified. It is organic, though, and is pretty reasonable at $3-$4 a box.
