Commercial Description
One of the first teas picked in the spring, Silver Needle is made from the first flush of fresh tea tree buds. Picked by hand before the leaves open, these delicate buds are lightly oxidized then dried, producing white leaves famous in China for their beauty and subtle, sweet flavor.

I tend not to like Silver Needle teas, but I found this one more interesting than most. It was my favorite silver needle yet from China (I strongly prefer the African-grown versions).
Dry leaf is mildly aromatic, and upon brewing, the cup initially smells like a typical silver needle of good quality, with the typical aroma suggesting melon and flowers.
But upon drinking, I find there are some interesting aromatic notes, including a hint of cocoa.
Flavor is subdued. There's only a faint bitterness, not much in the way of sweet, sour, or savory flavors.
I also found this tea more astringent than most silver needles, which was a plus for me, because it made it seem more full-bodied and made it more pleasant to drink.
Leaves a straw-like aftertaste.
Because of Simply Good Tea's static pricing scheme (all the teas being the same price), this tea is quite cheap, 105 grams for $15, it's hard to find silver needle tea of decent quality for anywhere near that price. But I'd prefer this tea to even much pricier examples.
