A smooth, gentle chai with a tangy aftertaste. Aroma sweet, spicey, and malty. Clove and cinnamon are particularly noticeable in the aroma; spice dominates and the tea is less noticeable. I'm not sure where the tea is from but the tea seems more like an Assam than like any other Indian teas. There's a bit of a metallic quality in the aftertaste too, although it's not altogether unpleasant.
I'm not crazy about the balance of spices in this blend. I would prefer much more cardamon (I like that to be the dominant ingredient in spiced teas) and also more ginger, and less cinnamon and clove.
My main criticism here is not of the tea, but the excessive amount of packaging involved. I got this in a sample pack and it was clearly oriented towards displaying the tea infuser...lots of layers of cardboard, plastic wrapping, unnecessary. Doesn't seem very sustainable! It's also not clear to me if the teabag is biodegradable / compostable, nor did I find that info on Tea Forte's website. Innovative? Yes, but not in the ways I care about most. It's also pricey.
