My family has been drinking Throat Coat for at least 15+ years. It's the first thing we reach for when we have colds. It is very soothing on the throat, helps open breathing passages, and temporarily reduces coughing. Highly recommend a 5 min covered steep time, a squeeze of lemon, and honey to taste. On it's own it tastes fine, but you cannot compare this medicinal herbal tea to fine black or green teas... that just isn't an appropriate comparison.

When I get cold, I always get severe sore throat (normally lose my voice and bad coughing afterward). Same pattern everytime. I tried many cough drops, spray, etc. to erase the pain but those work for really short period of time only. This time, I tried this tea immediately when I felt my throat getting sore. Oh my goodness, it really worked! My throat felt much better just after one cup, and didn't get that severe pain like I normally do. I'm truly amazed. I'm not a big fan of the taste of this tea (I thought it's similar to Aveda tea), but it was well worth drinking.

I'm not one to really believe in the efficacy of herbal remedies, but this tea is something that my parents have always offered to me when I'm sick and at this point, whether or not it actually works it's become a comfort.
That said, I wouldn't drink it if it didn't taste good, and sometimes I brew it for nothing but the taste and the feeling on the palate. If you like unique sensations in your tea, I'd recommend it regardless of its purported pharmaceutical properties.

When you are sick - especially if you have a Sore throat - you MUST try Throat Coat from Traditional Medicinals - available in most health food stores. It is loaded with Slippery Elm bark and literally helps coat and soother a sore throat. While, I don't drink this "recreationally" I love it when I am sick.

i'll start by saying that i drink this 'tea' simply because i love the flavor. i'm not reviewing this to vouch for its efficacy in the treatment of any condition.
i'll continue by saying that everyone, with the exception of one or two people, that i've given a cup of this to did not care for it flavor-wise.
ingredients: {blend of wild cherry bark, bitter fennel fruit, cinnamon bark, sweet orange peel}, licorice root, slippery elm bark, licorice root dry aqueous extract, marshmallow root.
the licorice definitely stands out, but it's certainly got more than licorice going on. it's hard to describe the smell and taste.. something smooth.. smothering.. oddly sweet.. it feels like it saturates certain receptors in a way that i don't otherwise experience.
anyway, i'll enjoy a mint or chamomile drink from time to time, but this is by far my favorite herbal 'tea.'

This tea is a horrible combination of astringent and cloying, with a taste remarkably reminiscent of those dreadful Fisherman's Friend lozenges. On the other hand, it works. Short term, but when you have a sore throat you'll take short term.
