Taiwan Ruby Black Tea (Hong Yue Premium) from Rishi Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: Nantou, Taiwan100 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Jan. 19th, 2011
this is the first hong yue / ruby black i've tried.
when i sip it, i primarily get a smooth, somewhat malty taste. the aroma is sweet, but there's also something else.. something cooling. i guess it's like aromatic, volatile terpene/camphor/evergreen/eucalyptus type of a smell&feeling.
it's certainly complex, a...

Jan. 14th, 2011
2010 harvest
8g, 160degF, 8oz water, 1min
nice, predominantly grassy aroma. somewhat vegetal. i find it to be lacking in 'deep umami flavor.'
[2nd] 160degF, 6oz water, 30sec
a pleasant bitterness coming out
the 4th infusion was so-so, but i got tired of drinking. perhaps i used too much leaf heh
overall l...

Masala Chai from Rishi Tea
Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: Blend83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 2nd, 2010
this is definitely my favorite chai blend.
i've tried several others (searching for a cheaper alternative), including a couple from an indian vendor, and they all fell short of rishi's.
as alex wrote in his review, it is a strong blend with plenty of spice (many other blends fail here). and unlike a lot of other b...

Wu Yi Oolong Tea from Arbor Teas
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Wuyi, Fujian, China73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 2nd, 2010
2.3g in 8oz water at 190F (for ~3mins? didn't keep track)
the liquor is smooth. not bitter.
has some sweetness to the aroma. roasty, indeed. it is earthy, and i guess it's reminiscent of fall leaves. i didn't really detect mushroom. it really reminds me of roasted peanuts.
2nd infusion: 8oz, 195F, ~5 mins

Elderflower White Tea from TeaGschwendner
Style: Flavored White Tea – Region: Blend57 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jun. 14th, 2010
very heavy fruity, apple-like aroma and flavor. it kind of overpowers the flavor of the base tea. this would make a nice, fruity iced tea for sure, but it's too pricey to brew up in bulk for this purpose.

Arya Ruby (Tippy) also known as 'Moonbeam' 2009 from Thunderbolt Tea
Style: Darjeeling Second Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jun. 13th, 2010
this seems like a well-balanced 2nd flush darjeeling. i imagine that this is basically what an archetypical 2nd flush tea should be. some muskiness, nuttiness, bitterness, and astringency. no single element is really overwhelming.
good tea

Giddapahar Musk (DJ 29) 2009 from Thunderbolt Tea

Jun. 13th, 2010
the dry leaves have a chocolaty and nutty aroma.
the musky flavor and aroma does come out when brewed. a somewhat nutty flavor. a fairly well balanced second-flush darjeeling at a pretty good value. i drink this one regularly.

very fruity indeed; it's one of the most naturally fruity teas i've tried. very pleasant flavor.
not a lot of bitterness.
definitely a tea i return to frequently.

the dry leaves and liquor have a rich, chocolate-like aroma.
i brewed ~10oz, 195F, 3min.
somewhat nutty flavor, but quite bitter.
not terribly impressed with this one.

Peach Mango White Tea (White Tea with Island Mango and Peach) from Lipton Tea
Style: Miscellaneous Blend – Region: ?????37 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5
Apr. 30th, 2010
aroma: powerful, fruity. peach with a hint of something meaty/salty that i assume is their attempt at mango. smells very artificial.
flavor: despite the powerful aroma of the teabag, surprisingly little flavor was transferred to the liquor. not awful, but this isn't a tea i'll bother revisiting.

Organic Mint Melange from Mighty Leaf Tea
Style: Mint Tea – Region: Morocco57 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Apr. 30th, 2010

Style: Flavored Rooibos – Region: Blend60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Apr. 30th, 2010
this is a potent concoction. very strong aroma and flavor of cinnamon and complementary spices. naturally sweet, as advertised. i get a craving for this every once in a while, but it's not something i can drink all the time. when i think 'excellent cinnamon beverage,' i think of this.

Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend60 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 30th, 2010
oh man, i have a special spot in my heart for this tea. i regularly drink it with milk at my british friend's house... a cup of that and a few "digestive biscuits" is a treat. a nice, smooth tea, assuming you don't steep it for too long. definitely has lots of bitter tannins. a protein source like milk is very effe...

Apr. 30th, 2010
this is alright as earl greys go, but certainly not excellent. the bergamot was not as strong as i like it. smooth.
kind of expensive. there are better earl greys out there... my favorite is zhena's gypsy - uplifting earl grey. earl grey supreme by rishi is also good.

this is my second-favorite earl grey [second to Zhena's Gypsy Tea Uplifting Earl Grey].
Since the Gypsy's offering is my favorite, i use it as a standard to compare other earl greys to.

aroma: strong, pungent, citrus. they have infused ...
