The dry leaf had an appealing smell, but this tea failed to impress me.
Flavor is rather savory, quite sour, and barely bitter at all. I prefer bitter to sour flavors in my tea. Aroma is muddled: slightly smoky, slightly malty, slightly herbaceous. Slightly peppery like some Yunnan teas and with some vegetal qualities like some darker Darjeelings. Overall, neither aroma nor flavor are particularly pleasing. I wish this one tasted more like the dry leaf as the leaves were pleasingly fruity in a way that did not come through in the brewed cup.
I would not recommend this one! Especially disappointing given that this was not at the lowest end of the price range of teas of this style (tippy Assams). I've had better Assams that were blends or mass-produced CTC teas.
