Darjeeling Sungma First Flush, Loose-leaf Tea from Happy Earth Tea

Fine-textured tea leaves with olive to yellowish-green color, silvery hints, and short, curved shapesView Full Resolution

This tea is technically a black tea, but it looks so bright green in color, it is even greener than some green teas. This reflects a low level of oxidation produced by a process called a "hard wither", something made uniquely possible by a particular combination of factors: high alittude, relatively dry air in early spring before the monsoon season picks up, and the small leaf size of the Chinese cultivar of tea plant used to produce this type of tea.

These factors cause the leaf to dry out quickly during processing, stopping the oxidation process that leads to the dark color of most teas.
