The leaves themselves have a very deep vanilla smell and, when brewed, it changes to a subtle fruity aroma with a nutty hint. It's not as bitter as I expected it would be without sugar - you can definitely taste the apricot. It's not bad exactly, but it is sort of a let down. Two teaspoons of sugar bring out the vanilla flavor, and it's quite lovely, but it's sort of elusive in the way that it has no aftertaste.
