Irish Breakfast Tea Bags
|
Commercial Description
The Irish are traditionally some of the biggest tea drinkers in the world and generally prefer a hearty cup of strong tea. We blend the very best teas from Assam, Rwanda and Kenya to ensure our Irish Breakfast matches the quality of teas served in the tea houses of Cork and Dublin. This tea is a perfect way to greet the day with its reviving, full-bodied taste and is best enjoyed with milk.

This is the dark, bitter brother to Taylor's Scottish breakfast tea. Blended to be drunk with milk, it is a real eye opener if you try it alone. Hearty rather than robust, it makes a pretty decent cup with some malty flavor and only a tiny bit of brightness.
I bought 20 bags for about $3 at a local import store, which seems incredibly cheap. I used it as a base for some home made chai, which worked out great as well, but have yet to find a way to drink this iced without it becoming to bitter.

This is what I'd expect from this style: a very strong black tea, bitter, full-bodied, and very malty. It isn't my favorite type of tea but for what it is, and for the fact that it's in teabags, I think it's pretty good.
This tea really works best with one teabag per cup. It's strong enough that you can brew it more weakly than that, but I think that would be missing the point.
