Commercial Description
Although this fannings grade tea yields a robust cup, the flavor is smooth and pleasing. Steep for 1 to 3 minutes, according to taste. A great value for a flavorful African tea.

Very fine fannings; dry leaf has little aroma.
Upton recommends 1-3 minutes, I prefer steeping only 30-45 seconds, and using a bit more leaf than recommended, as it brings out the interesting qualities of the aroma while keeping the tea smoother and milder.
Brewing like this produces a very smooth and clean tea. Clear taste: little astringency or bitterness, a mild, but clean sourness, medium body. Aroma strongly suggests fennel or anise, more fennel. There are also tones of wintergreen, and rice, especially in the finish. Slightly reminiscent of a high-grown Ceylon, but with less edge and a more malty character.
Surprising quality for fannings.
