Taipei County is a county in northern Taiwan. It surrounds but does not include Taipei City, the largest city in Taiwan; the city is considered its own governmental unit. Due to a reorganization in December of 2010, Taipei County is now called New Taipei City. The tea world generally still refers to the area as Taipei County.Taipei County reaches from the coast inland to areas of relatively high elevation. Most of the county is heavily developed as suburb; the more rural areas, farther from the city, are where the tea is grown. Pinglin District, pictured to the right, is located in the southeast of the county, and is important in producing pouchong. This region borders Yilan county to the southeast.
