Not my cup of tea, and among the more disappointing teas from Octavia, although I think it's a good example of this style, it's a type of tea that I don't tend to like very much. Another sample served in Velvet Sky bakery in Jenkintown.
This is one of those classic "damp basement" Pu-erhs. Smells like wet moss or decaying organic material on the forest floor, with a hint of wet stone. Fairly warming though, and pleasant to drink.
Flavor is mellow, with a very rounded mouthfeel.
I tend not to like cooked Pu-erh, and although this was above average for this type of tea, it still tasted like a typical example of cooked Pu-erh, and as such I wasn't a huge fan of it.
It would probably resteep well, but after a single cup, I had had enough. I'm glad I tried it, but I'll pass on this one in the future.
I thought this one was very overpriced...at $90 a pound, this is competing with many of the best artisan teas. And you can get shou Pu-erh cakes of similar quality much, much cheaper, as well as very good sheng (raw) cakes, which I like better. So I think this one isn't really worth buying from this company.
