About Zhenghe, Fujian, China
Zhenghe(政和), often written Zheng He, is a county in the north of Fujian province of China. Zhenghe is located within Nanping(南平), which is a prefecture-level city, shown on the map by the lighter green color. Zhenghe shares its name (as a homonym) with Zheng He(郑和), a famous Chinese Muslim eunuch who lived from 1371 to 1433, who became an explorer, diplomat, and fleet admiral.Zhenghe county is important in white tea production. Zhenghe is not far from Fuding, although the two regions do not border each other. Fuding is another key region in white tea production; Zhenghe is farther inland, which changes the climate somewhat, and thus the character of the teas produced. There is also a specific varietal of tea grown in this region, called the Zheng He Da Bai Hao varietal. According to Jing Tea Shop, the white peony tea produced in Zhenghe is less visually attractive, but more flavorful than the same tea produced in Fuding.[1]
