No better than regular stuff and added Vanilla flavoring is lost.

This herbal tea is pretty good. I detect a little bitterness, but the vanilla helps. It's a pretty smooth drink, and it made two decent cups. People who really like chamomile will likely enjoy this one.

I was first exposed to Celestial Seasonings' original Sleepytime® blend in the Herbal Tea Sampler Pack. Vanilla is one of my favorite flavors and I liked the original so I decided to try the Vanilla variation of Sleepytime®. I have had this tea for quite some time now, but only recently got around to opening the package. One thing that I was immediately put off by was the quality of the tea bags. Celestial Seasonings' bags have no string and are very easily torn. The taste of their teas, however, repetitively compels me to keep purchasing their products.

My first whiff of this tea gave me the impression that the spearmint would overpower the taste. The entirety of the blend was upstaged by the deep aroma of spearmint and the subtlety of the vanilla. The scent of chamomile was present, but weak and the west Indian lemongrass gave the blend a citrus undertone. During and after the brewing, the aroma changed and the scent of vanilla became much more pronounced and the robust smell of the spearmint subsided and blended more thoroughly with the chamomile and lemongrass.

The steaming, freshly brewed tea was a light yellow-brown color and left a minty vanilla aroma floating around in the kitchen. After adding a teaspoon of clover honey and a teaspoon of Perfectea Rock Sugar to the cup, I took a sip and let the liquid rest and absorb in my mouth to experience the full flavor of the blend before swallowing the sweet mixture.

The taste of the Sleepytime® Vanilla blend is absolutely superb. Sleepytime® Vanilla was rich and heavy in flavor with a strong followup of minty freshness immediately after swallowing. The unyielding and rich flavor of the vanilla complemented the tea without being too overpowering from a personal view, but may for anyone who does not really like vanilla. The taste of chamomile is much more pronounced than the aroma suggested and the underlying hint of spearmint leaves a fresh tingling in your mouth, as if you'd just brushed your teeth. As someone who is not a fan of peppermint or other extremely minty teas, the spearmint in Sleepytime was perfectly blended with the other flavors to create a rich and soothing experience.
