↑About Menghai Tea Factory (Taetea)
Menghai Tea Factory, associated with the Taetea brand, is a tea factory in Menghai county in Yunnan province of China, owned by the Taetea group. It produces only pu-erh tea, both in loose-leaf and compressed forms, but mostly compressed. It manufactures both raw and ripe pu-erh. Menghai was founded in 1940 under the name Fo Hai Tea Factory, and changed to its current name in 1953, when Xishuangbanna autonomous prefecture was formed. It is among the oldest tea factories in China.
Menghai's tea is labeled by batch and recipe numbers. Since Pu-erh changes (and often improves) with age, and also since the flavor of the tea is influenced by various external factors such as weather that vary from year to year, different batches with the same recipe can have very different flavors.
Menghai's teas are available from a variety of online retailers as well as in a number of Chinese specialty tea stores.
On RateTea we allow users to list teas either under Menghai's brand, or under the brands of various tea companies or shops that sell them. Reviewing these teas under other brand names may provide some additional information, because in the case of Pu-erh, the storage can have considerable effect on flavor, but reviewing them here allows for consolidating information about teas from this factory in one place.
