About Golaghat, Assam, India

Golaghat is a narrow, boomerang-shaped district in Assam, India. It partly wraps around Karbi Anglong to the southwest, has a tiny border with Nagaon to the east, and is bordered by Jorhat district to the northeast. On the south banks of the Brahmaputra, it is the lowest district consistently considered to be part of Upper Assam.

The odd-looking shape of the district naturally follows the geography of the region, encompassing floodplains and lowlands and following the contours of hills, with the upload areas mostly being separated out into Karbi Anglong.

The region's economy is primarily agricultural, and tea is the primary crop here. Behora, Borsapori, Bukhial, Ghillidary, Marangi, and Numalighur tea estates are located here. The region also grows rice and sugar cane.

Golaghat is home to Kaziranga National Park, home to the largest population of the Indian rhinoceros, as well as numerous other large mammals.
