A smooth, but ultimately mediocre oolong. Very dark, not terribly bitter, but also very uninteresting. Most Chinese restaurants have tea with more of an interesting flavor and aroma.
Dry leaf has a mild, mellow aroma. Upon brewing, the roasted aroma comes out more.
The brewed cup has an oily film on top of it. Aroma is mild, and mostly of roast, with a faint fishy smell to it, and a bit dusty like some Pu-erh, but there are rich undertones of caramel.
The color of the cup is very dark, like black tea, but the flavor is mellow. There's little bitterness, but considerable astringency. The finish is very astringent...tastes almost burned.
There wasn't a lot of flavor in the leaves to begin with, so I didn't try brewing a second cup. I used boiling water and a 3 minute steeping.
Much better than the "Tie Guan Yin" from the same company, but sorely disappointing relative to the Bi Luo Chun and Huangshan Mao Feng, which I think are top-notch in their price range. Even though this tea is very cheap (6oz for $5), I would not buy it again.
