Investigating the dry bag (looks and aroma), then the wet bag in-cup, I expected the ginger to have a lot more kick. Not that I thought it would treat the epiglottis as a punching bag, like Vernors soda, or the strong "Ginger Beer" I often drank in college...but this presentation did set expectations that reality couldn't meet.

Quite a lot of yellowish ginger pieces floated above the green-tea leaves in the wet bag, along with a few stems of lemongrass. Essential oils (presumably mostly from the ginger, since the lemongrass was sparse, small and very dry) floated up into an obvious sheen of droplets. The color brewed up rather dark and opaque for a herbally flavored green tea. Promises, promises...and then:

The ginger is not as strong as I thought it would be, except in the aftertaste. That at least permits one to taste the green tea, which I did not expect to be able to do, given ginger's tendency to overwhelm other ingredients. Is that a good thing? Yes if you prefer balance in ginger/tea flavor (ratchet the rating up), no if you like brute force (ratchet the rating down). Since the exercise of rating tastes is intrinsically subjective, I did the latter. The lemongrass seems like a superfluous ingredient; I had no sense of it at all except visually. This isn't a bad tea, but it could use a rebalancing if Tazo expects to impress the ginger crowd with this offering.

This tea is pretty middle of the road. It is pretty weak unless you really give it a long steep. Even then the green tea is pretty modest in flavor but the punchy ginger comes out with a spicy ginger bite finish that I really enjoy after a meal. I do however try to go with other ginger teas as I try to stick to organic teas without "natural flavors."

Meh. Not much of a ginger flavor or fragrance. Just not a very memorable tea if you enjoy flavored teas.

I was really hoping for better. I think the fact that it's a green tea blend rather than a specifically chosen variety of green tea may have been part of the problem. It's a bit of a mess without any clear standout flavors, imo. I didn't notice any specific pear flavor, and even the ginger was fairly muted rather than bright.

In a word: muddled.

It's OK but not a holy grail. Zippy with Ginger but the green underneath is Tazo's ubiquitous grassy/mild green-generic. OK. Not great.

I loved the way it smelled; very promising with a nice ginger, citrusy aroma. The taste, however, reminded me of grass, but at least it wasn't too strong.

Strong gingery aroma: dried ginger, not particularly fresh. The aroma is also suggestive of licorice. Lemongrass is noticeable in the aroma. Not much green tea presence. Spicy overall. Flavor is muddled. Color is a rich golden orange. Peppery aftertaste.

While I've had a lot worse, this one just didn't do it for me.

The aroma is light and sweet offering slight notes of the ginger. The falvor is nicely sweet and a touch spicey. The pear really doesn't come through all that strong. The tea itself is of decent quality coming from a bag. This is one of my favorite bagged teas.
