This is the first broken-leaf Ceylon from Upton that has been drinkable to me, and I'm surprised to find it completely lacking in the harshness that the other ones I've tried have had.
The aroma is totally unlike any black tea I have tried...it reminds me of rice and rice pastries. I like Upton's description "bright". The aroma isn't very strong, however...it's subtle.
There is a very pleasant sourness in this tea, especially in the aftertaste...I normally don't like sour teas but in the case of this tea, I love it.
Upton's brewing instructions worked well, I normally like to brew such finely broken teas for a shorter time because they can become overly tannic, but this one was perfect at 3 minutes. I tried a 1 minute infusion too, and while the aroma was unchanged, the tea was thinner and lacked the tangy quality in the aftertaste that I found so pleasing. Very inexpensive, especially considering how interesting this tea is and that it's relatively easy to brew well.
