About Chai Diaries

Chai Diaries is a tea company, founded in 2013 by Ami Bhansali and based in Pico Rivera, CA, in the Los Angeles area. The company's logo is a reference to their name, a visual hybrid of an open book, and tea leaves.

The company sells loose-leaf tea, as well as tea in pyramid sachets, and has a clear focus on masala chai (spiced teas), but it also sells pure teas as well. The teas are available in a number of retail stores, and also sold online, both through Amazon and the company's own website.

Rooibos Coco Chai

Style: Rooibos Chai / Spiced Rooibos – Region: Blend
Sep. 4th, 2023

As with their other product that I have reviewed (Bombay Masala Chai), the concept is great, but the execution is lame. The sachets only contain around 1/5 their volume of dry product, which (as can be expected with rooibos) doesn't expand very much when wet, leaving the wet bags still 1/4 full or less. What a waste ...

Here's a tea that seems to work the gourmet/artisan angle hard, presumably in order to justify the exorbitant cost, and just doesn't live up to the billing. The first thing I noticed about the dry bags (fairly standard-sized pyramid sachets with string and tag) is that the dry product only filled about 1/4–1/5 of it...

Rose Oolong

Style: Flavored Oolong – Region: Blend
Jan. 9th, 2014

A light-colored, medium-bodied tea dominated by the rose aroma.

Sampled at the Philadelphia Coffee and Tea Festival, another old review that I only posted now.

This blend's aroma struck me as all rose and no tea...the tea imparted only a mild body and richness, a slight flavor. The rose, however, dominates both ...

Bombay Masala Chai

A creamy chai, light bodied yet with a slight tannic kick.

Sample at the Philadelphia Coffee and Tea Festival...I've taken very long to post my reviews.

This was the first tea I sampled from Chai Diaries, and it impressed me and made me eager to try more from this new company. The vanilla is just enough to impar...
