Black Loose Leaf Vietnam's Mountain Tea from ViXi
Style: Black Tea – Region: Vietnam91 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5

Wow, what a find!
I discovered this tea when looking for loose-leaf black teas to throw into an Amazon order to get over their free shipping threshold, and I was pleasantly surprised. I love wild arbor tea from Yunnan province, which I often buy from Yunnan Sourcing, and I've had it from Mengku, Jingmai, and Da Hu S...
Ancient Forest Black from Zhi Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: Vietnam84 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 2nd, 2019
This was among the most interesting teas I've tried in a long time, both aromatically and with respect to mouthfeel. It was the first pure tea I've tried from Zhi, and it may be the first tea from this company to wow me. It had an unusual character somewhere in between that of a black tea and a Pu-erh, but not like rip...

A very pleasant tea that was easy to steep and easy to appreciate. Like a good Yunnan tea but a little smoother.
Thank you to Simpson & Vail for the sample!
Dry leaf smells really beautiful and kind of fascinating: malty but with strong vegetal notes. It looks and smells a lot like a Yunnan tea, which makes sense...
Vietnamese Black OP from Harney and Sons
Style: Black Tea – Region: Vietnam73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5

A medium-bodied tea with nutty and chocolatey aromas, I can see this being likely to please people who enjoy hot chocolate.
The dry leaf has a strong smell of sweet nutty candy, like marzipan, pistacio, milk chocolat, or hazelnut creme. It reminds me of those Mozartkugeln, the German candies with layers of hazelnut...
Vietnam Yen Bai OP Organic from TeaGschwendner
Style: Black Tea – Region: Vietnam67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Oct. 22nd, 2014
Purchased in the TeaGschwender shop in Regensburg, Germany.
Dry leaf is not very aromatic; it faintly suggests cocoa.
Brews up a very typical cup. I used TeaGschwendner's recommendation of 4 minutes, but used less leaf than they recommend, and this produced results that I liked. I was able to make a second stee...
Vietnam Nam Lanh Estate Black Tea from Arbor Teas
Style: Black Tea – Region: Vietnam77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jun. 7th, 2013
Another fascinating tea from Arbor Teas, very different from anything else I've tried yet.
The dry leaf has an interesting appearance, with thick leaves that curve around in heterogeneous shapes. The leaf also has a very pungent and pleasing aroma, suggesting of herbs.
Brews a rich-smelling, dark cup. Tones of ...
Vietnam Green Organic from Simpson & Vail
Style: Green Tea – Region: Vietnam63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 18th, 2012
A unique green tea, almost bizarre. Large but tightly-curled dry leaf reminds me of some Korean and Ceylon greens. The leaf has a strong, peppery aroma, and is also suggestive of other Vietnam green teas I've sampled. Leaf is slow to infuse and produces many infusions. Flavor is remarkably consistent through differ...

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Vietnam83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

I agree with Simpson and Vail that this is a superior tea; it's definitely my favorite tea to come out of Vietnam yet, and is on par with some of the better Taiwanese oolongs.
This oolong has a bright green leaf, loosely rolled into fairly large pellets of unequal size. It unfurls quite quickly into medium-size, wh...
Vietnam Black Tea from Simpson & Vail
Style: Black Tea – Region: Vietnam67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 5th, 2012
Dry leaf has a mild, but very pleasing aroma, surprisingly suggestive of sweetness.
The brewed cup has a lighter golden color, than one would expect from the dark color of the leaf. Flavor is smooth, with a honey-like sweetness, a pleasing crispness, and minimal astringency. Full-bodied yet with a cooling quality....
Shan Tuyet Snow Green from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Green Tea – Region: Vietnam77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5

Brews a rich golden color. The aroma of this tea is more similar to a dragonwell tea than any other green tea I've tried, but the overall experience of drinking it is very different. Very aromatic, with a slightly toasty aroma. The flavor is muted and the tea has a cooler quality than dragonwell, with a hint of smok...

A pleasantly mellow tea, unlike anything else I've tried before. Definitely noticeable as a Vietnamese tea; it's interesting how both their black and green teas share certain characteristics in common.
Very smooth, little bitterness, even when steeped for a long time. I find a hint of lemon in the aroma, which is ...
Vietnam Green Sencha from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Sencha – Region: Vietnam80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Jan. 2nd, 2010
I would not recognize this tea as sencha from either the appearance of the leaves or the aroma of the dried leaf or brewed cup. There's only a faint suggestion of the characteristic sencha aroma, barely emerging and then vanishing.
The aroma is vegetal, but less seaweedy than sencha, and more savory. Tastes more s...
