Jeju(제주) is both an island, and a province of South Korea, located just south and a bit west of the mainland. Although Jeju island makes up most of the province, as a political entity, Jeju province also includes a few other small islands. The island is home to the highest mountain in South Korea, Hallasan, which is technically classified as an active volcano although it has been around 5000 years since an eruption. Most of the island has a humid subtropical climate, greatly moderated by the ocean. There is a rainy season June through September, but still ample moisture year-round. The island receives significant snow in winter due to the ocean effect, but does not experience deep cold, with temperatures usually staying above freezing except at the higher elevations.
Jeju produces green and oolongs tea, including organic-certified ones, and teas grown here are available in the West.
